Manasamitra developed a musical theatre piece aimed at 2-7 year olds and their families, based on the theme of ‘bees and the environment’. The company worked with early-years specialist Anna Daly to explore the most effective and enjoyable way to engage young audiences and to create unique play events. Using music, dance, theatre and crafts, Manasamitra created a truly interactive and unique play experience for very young children. A ‘public dress rehearsal’ took place at 2pm Northorpe Barn, Mirfield, followed by a ‘scratch performance’ at the Civic Theatre, Barnsley.
“Life of a Bee” was a part of Bradford Literature Festival’s ‘Bees Day Primary Schools Programme’,
where the company performed to approximately 900 students and teachers; the performance was followed by a workshop. The performance incorporatee a bee choir and participatory dance activity, suggestive of the bee’s ‘waggle dance’.
The day of activity focussed entirely on Bees and the importance of looking after bees and the environment. It was aimed at KS1 children and included a range of other activities throughout the day.
